Local Knowledge & Cool Perks

Grand Rapids is know for many industries. It's first major industry was Gypsum (plaster) mining in the 1800's. The next major industry to come to the city was furniture which is a label that has stayed to this day with the companies like Steelcase. The beer industry came to the city in 1836 but quickly went away because of prohibition. It wasn't until 1997 that the beer industry came back. This brewery later became know as Founders. Since then Grand Rapids has become known as Beer City USA and is home to 80+ breweries.
