Hidden gems of Hoedspruit & Surrounds – a wildlife & nature lover's guide

Hidden gems of Hoedspruit & Surrounds – a wildlife & nature lover's guide

Abundant wildlife, amazing scenery, great food & rewarding detours on a budget. Hidden gems revealed - including Kruger Park tips!

Aug 19, 2013

About the Guidebook

Limpopo, South Africa has to be one of the most beautiful, yet under-rated provinces in the country. Hoedspruit, a unique African themed tourist town, is at the centre of pretty much all the interesting attractions. Only 30 min from Kruger Park's Orpen gate and surrounded by private game reserves - you are certainly spoilt for choice in terms of game viewing opportunities - on any budget. This guide explores some of those areas, as well as places which will interest any person or family looking for beautiful scenery and unique experiences (and even some great food!). It will take you over the famous (and beautiful) panorama route featuring cascading waterfalls and breath-taking views, through parts of Kruger with tips on good game-viewing spots, into the Blyde Canyon (the largest green canyon in the world), past giant Baobab trees and into Hoedspruit itself, all whilst driving on roads, most times with Big 5 game reserves on either side - NO 4x4 required! The aim: To take you off the beaten track and help you experience the hidden gems not many tourists are able to enjoy.

Local Knowledge & Cool Perks

Working in the area within the tourism industry allows me to have insider information to great places to stay or visit, or to places to stay away from.

I have personally travelled to all of the places listed in this guide, and have done all of the activities listed myself (numerous numerous times!). For this reason, you can be sure that the information is accurate at the time of publishing the guide, and that you have insider information only locals could possibly know (or perhaps a lost tourist!).

Most of the activities listed suit the low budget traveller, or even a family who would rather spend more money on upcoming Christmas presents - however, in no way does this mean the quality of the attractions are of lesser value what so ever - this is one of the perks of knowing hidden gems in a province with a huge amount of natural beauty, and very few towns (so no need to pay 'city prices').

About the Author

Born & raised in South Africa, the diversity of the country ensured that I developed a passion for travel at a young age. Besides having lived in 3 provinces, I have travelled S.A. extensively & am still exploring as often as possible! I have also travelled & lived in various countries such as England, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong, Botswana & Mozambique. My passion for wildlife photography quickly grew when I started working in the tourism industry, and I haven't looked back since!
