About the Guidebook

The guide will give you an overview of what to do in Port Stephens, with helpful information on where to find out more details.  There is something here for everyone, whether you are travelling as a family, single or group of friends.

Local Knowledge & Cool Perks

Nelson Bay is the main resort area of the Port Stephens shire and this is where you will find many shops and restaurants, the marina, the fish co-op, beaches and of course the information centre.

There are many other surrounding suburbs which all have their own little places to explore, such as Shoal Bay, Salamander Bay, Soldiers Point, Fingal Bay.  It's well worth taking a drive through all of these suburbs as there is certainly plenty to see.

Diving or snorkelling - head to Fly Point Aquatic Reserve.

Surfing - head to Fingal Bay, Box Beach or One Mile Beach (good for beginners).

Cruising - book a whale watching or dolphin watching tour or even a dinner cruise on the 'Moonshadow'.

Adventure Activities - There is plenty to choose from .... parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving, quad bike rides on Stockton Beach, camel rides, horse riding, golf.

Shopping - plenty of boutique shops in Nelson Bay, larger shopping centre in Salamander Bay.

Eating Out - Lots of pubs, taverns and restaurants.  Try the  Nelson Bay Bowling Club, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, Wests Nelson Bay Diggers, Shoal Bay Country Club.

Bush walking - Head to Tilligerry Peninsula and explore the Tilligerry Habitat State Reserve for a leisurely walk.  Also various walks through Tomaree National Park, which give spectacular views and walks through bushland, beaches and forests.

Accommodation - There are numerous accommodation options to suit everyone, from resorts and motels, bed & breakfast, camping, cabins, self contained accommodation and house/apartment holiday rentals.
